JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A 71-year-old man shot in a convenience store parking lot Saturday night has been identified.
Charles Anthony Hall was near his Mercury Grand Marquis in the parking lot of the Neighborhood Food Market in the 4330 block of Moncrief Road, when two men allegedly approached him from behind and said, "Give it up pops," according to a report from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Hall was shot twice during the attempted armed robbery and got his car to flee the suspects, but crashed a shortly down the road at the intersection of Golfair and Moncrief Road.
The suspects were not able to rob Hall of any cash or possessions in the exchange. Hall said he refused to meet the suspects' demands, according to JSO.
JSO officers were in the area, heard the gunshots and were investigating when they were flagged down in regards to the crash.
Moncrief Road between Golfair Blvd. and 33rd St. was closed while officers conducted their investigation.
Hall was taken to UF Health Jacksonville where was treated for his injuries and released.
An investigation is ongoing.
