Jacksonville, Fla. -- A 13-year-old is dead and her teenage friend is fighting for her life following a weekend shooting that left a Northwest Jacksonville home riddled by gunfire.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says it has no suspects in connection with the shooting on Missouri Avenue that killed Jazmine Shelton and critically injured Megan Simmons.

RELATEDJSO continues to investigate fatal shooting

On Monday, friends helped the family move out of the trailer where Jazmine was visiting her mother Pancy Shelton.

Investigators say three adults and two children where in the home when it was targeted by gunfire in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Tammy Lamberton lives next door and was awakened by the gunplay.

"Fourth of July. I thought somebody in neighborhood was doing fire crackers. I know it sounds bad to say but it is true. We hear gun shots all the time," said Lamberton, who also said Jazmine was like family to her.

Violence against children hits home to an organization locally that assists families of slain children.

"My son was murdered in 2005," said Beverly McClain who heads up the organization that has a memorial at Myrtle Avenue spelling out the names of victims.

"There used to be a time when gangsters had a code of ethics," said McClain.

"Women and children were not harmed, but now it don't matter anything goes and it is said," said McClain.

The sheriff's office says in the past year it received 24 calls for service to the home on Missouri Avenue.  Three of the calls were categorized as domestic, seven fell under the heading of a fight.

Anyone with information regarding this shooing is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500.
