JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Scandal has shaken the public defender's office in Jacksonville.

Our News partner -- The Florida Times Union -- investigated and is reporting former employees of Public Defender Matt Shirk said he broke protocol when hiring two women.

Within weeks those women were fired from the office.

The Florida Times Union's journalist Topher Sanders reports that one of the women initially worked at Whisky River.

She and her friend were hired, according to the paper -- and her attractive appearance was discussed.

The article alleges Shirk drank alcohol with the women in his office and sent at least one of the women an inappropriate text message.

When the two women and another woman were fired -- the paper reports that two investigators resigned -- upset with the way the women were treated by Shirk.
