(USA TODAY) -- Authorities were continuing to investigate a domestic dispute
involving George Zimmerman and his estranged wife at her father's
Florida home, despite Shellie Zimmerman's refusal to press charges, Lake
Mary police said Tuesday.
Public information officer Zach Hudson
said police responded to a 911 call Monday afternoon from Shellie
Zimmerman in which she can be heard telling the dispatcher that George

Police Chief Steve Bracknell said Shellie
Zimmerman and her father decided not to press charges in the Monday
incident after consulting with a lawyer. However, the investigation will
continue, Hudson said.
Florida law allows police officers to arrest someone for domestic violence without the consent of the victim.
Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara, said on Monday his client did
nothing wrong and the dispute was typical for a couple going through a
divorce. On Tuesday, he said he was not going to represent George
Zimmerman in the matter.
"I've come to know them as a family, and it's not a good idea to get in between them," O'Mara said.
Zimmerman, who is Hispanic, was acquitted in July in the 2012 shooting
death of Martin, a black teen, in Sanford, Fla. The case captured the
nation's attention and put a spotlight on Florida's self-defense gun
laws. The couple separated weeks later, and Shellie Zimmerman filed for
divorce last week.
