WASHINGTON, DC -- The United States Capitol was placed under lockdown Thursday afternoon when a vehicle ramed into the security gate and shots were reportedly exchanged.

The female suspect is reported as dead and one Capitol Police Office is injured.

The alert to lawmakers and staffers went out around 2:25 p.m. and the all clear was given at 2:55 p.m.
