GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- The Clay County Sheriff's Office, joined by the North Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, announced 16 arrests on Tuesday in "Operation 'Wrong Destination.'"
The arrested include 16 men ranging in ages 20 to 53 who were charged with Traveling to Meet a Minor for Sex Offense and Use of a 2-Way Communication Device to Facilitate a Felony.
"Operation 'Wrong Destination'" was five-day undercover operation conducted "to identify and arrest persons who exploit children using the Internet," according to a release from CCSO.
The investigation was funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, which funds ICAC Task Force operations.
Offenders can sometimes use social media, mobile apps and eCommerce sites to send child pornography to their victims, who they believe to be children.
According to the release, "offenders who possess child pornography are likely to have had a dozen victims before being captured in an operation or "sting" such as this."
