JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Home Depot Foundation is giving 20 veterans new homes.
The third wing of the Five Star Veterans Center will under go a major renovation. Volunteers from Team Depot all over the United States are participating in a two month initiative from September 11 until Veterans Day.
Volunteers will remodel six bathrooms, construct new closets, refinish floors, and replace carpet.
The Home Depot Foundation improves homes of U.S military veterans through financial and volunteer resources to help nonprofit organizations like Five Star Veterans Center -- and so far has committed about 80 million dollars to these efforts over five years.
The goal is to help integrate homeless veterans into society.
The Five Star Veterans Center provides transitional housing and support services to veterans at no charge.
There are about 350 homeless veterans in the Jacksonville area.
