HAWKINSVILLE, Ga. -- Leaks will force a state-run fishing area near Hawkinsville to close for repairs.
Officials at the Department of Natural Resources said they are planning to close the Ocmulgee fishing area Nov. 7 to make preparations for repair work.
The lake was last full in April 2011. It has dropped 17 feet since then. Boat ramps were closed in August because of the low water levels.
Regional fisheries supervisor Bert Deener said crews have already started work on one major leak. But he said the water will likely keep dropping and additional repairs will be needed.
DNR officials plan to collect the fish already in the lake and move them to other public fishing areas.
