STOCKTON, CA -- A test drive at a used car dealership in Stockton ended up with a salesman stranded by the side of the road and the car stolen.

A man described by police as a black male, between 24 and 29 years old, with a thin build, wearing a black cap and white shirt asked 209 Motors salesman Richard Madrid if he could test drive a car.

"He was looking for a BMW 745, which we did have in inventory," Madrid said. "Showed it to him. He liked it. Offered him a test drive, we even put gas in the car for him."

The test drive began with no hint of trouble.

"Everything was fine," Madrid said. "He said he had a friend who had a mechanic shop out toward French Camp Road."

But the suspect stopped south of Stockton and suddenly turned to Madrid, who was in the passenger's seat.

"'Get the blank out of the car,'" Madrid said the suspect told him, at the same time, appearing to reach behind him for a gun.

Madrid said he quickly got out of the car.

"I'm not going to question that," he said.

Madrid was then left stranded by the side of the road until police arrived.

"You always get kind of shaky about things like that. But you know, it's just a car and my job pays well and I' m happy here, but it's not worth it for a car," Madrid said. "I'm not gonna argue for someone over it."

Police are on the lookout for the stolen BMW.

The car lot said it plans to change it's policy for test drives, requiring drivers to give them some form of identification before they can take a car for a spin.

Madrid said he was shaken by the incident, but is confident justice will eventually be served.

"Police are gonna find that guy and they're gonna take him down and we're gonna get our car back," Madrid said.
