A Palm Coast man is accused of shooting his friend while the two were horsing around in the garage, talking about what they would do if they were attacked.
Edward Towers, 57, is charged with misdemeanor culpable negligence in the shooting on Reidsville Drive about 6 p.m. Wednesday night.
A witness told deputies, the men were drinking in the garage when they started talking about defending themselves.
Towers allegedly pulled a gun from his waistband and fired it at 44-year-old Jamie Goodell, hitting him in the stomach. Goodell is in stable condition following surgery.
Towers apparently thought the gun wasn't loaded and it actually went off a second time, hitting the ground. He is also charged with discharging a firearm in public.
