President Obama is back at the White House, ready Wednesday to honor a holiday tradition and hope for a truce in Gaza. President Obama is back at the White House, ready Wednesday to honor a holiday tradition and hope for a truce in Gaza.

The afternoon, despite the objections of PETA and other animal rights groups, Obama will pardon the National Thanksgiving Turkey in a Rose Garden ceremony.

Later, Obama and his family will honor the season with a volunteer service event in Washington, D.C.

Meanwhile, throughout the day, the president will honor events in the Middle East, with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton in the region trying to broke a truce to fighting Israelis and Palestinians in Gaza.

Clinton has met with the leaders of Israel and the Palestinian Authority, and is scheduled to talk today with Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi.

Obama returned to his home at nearly 1 a.m. Wednesday, following a four-day trip to Southeast Asia for economic meetings.
