CHARDON, Ohio -- T.J. Lane showed nothing but contempt for the families of his victims during the sentencing hearing in the Chardon High School shootings.

Lane chose to make a brief statement in court during which he flipped the middle finger to those assembled in the court including the victims' families and used profane language.

His attorney told the court prior to Lane's statement that the teen did not wish to have any evidence presented in court that may potentially mitigate his prison sentence. Lane faces life in prison in connection with his plea last month for the murders of three students at Chardon High School and the wounding of three others.

Lane is wearing a white T-shirt with the handwritten word "killer" on it. He revealed the undershirt after taking off a blue buttom down shirt he had worn into the court.

Victims' families are addressing the court and have described Lane as evil, a description echoed by prosecutors. Holly Walczak told Lane she hated him. Russell King Jr.'s sister referred to him as an "evil, disgusting animal."

The mother of Daniel Parmertor told Lane he would "never be a fraction of the man" that her son was and referred to him as a "pathetic excuse for a human being."

For his part, Lane sat in the courtroom mostly smirking and at times facing directly toward the family members as they read their victims' impact statements.
