AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say more than half of the 18 players on an east Georgia high school soccer team who were suspended over drinking allegations will finish the year at the Columbia County Alternative School.
The Augusta Chronicle reports that the Greenbrier High School students were accused of drinking alcohol during a team trip to Jekyll Island for a tournament March 14-16. Superintendent Charles Nagle said two of the players also admitted to smoking synthetic marijuana.
The incident came to the attention of school administrators through posts on a Twitter account.
Nagle said students who are attending the alternative school are not allowed to attend any function on campus until their suspensions are complete. He said the seniors will be allowed to attend graduation if they've met the academic requirements.
