MANCHESTER, Ill. (AP) - Autopsies are to be performed on five people shot to death in their central Illinois home.
Authorities have yet to identify the victims, believed to have been shot to death in their Manchester home by a man who was later gunned down by police. The Scott County coroner's office says the identities of the victims will be released after autopsies are performed Thursday.
State Police Lt. Col. Todd Kilby says 43-year-old Rick O. Smith shot to death two women, two boys and a man before leading police on a chase that ended in an exchange of gunfire that left him dead. Smith is the nephew of Manchester's mayor.
Authorities say they believe Smith and the victims were acquainted, but they didn't provide details of the relationships.
