CLEVELAND, Oh. -- Cleveland's most famous neighbor is fighting back.

Charles Ramsey, the man who helped to rescue Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight from captivity, says a news report by Britain's Daily Mail is "full of lies."

The Daily Mail reported that "Cleveland's kidnapping hero" was broke, jobless and homeless, despite earning an estimated $50,000 from public appearances and donations.

Since the rescue, Ramsey has faced a whirlwind of publicity. A restaurant offered him burgers for life. There was a Charles Ramsey video, a statue and an action figure toy.

And the YouTube song and video called "Dead Giveaway," using news clips of Ramsey, has surpassed 16 million views.

WKYC tracked down Ramsey to get his response to the Daily Mail report.

"It's bulls**t," he said. "That's the politically correct word for it."

He said he's made about $18,000 from his sudden fame.

"What I've made are lots of friends," he said, "and I'm borrowing money from lots of friends."

Ramsey spent $8,000 of the money to buy a used BMW, but he insists that he's not having a hard time finding a job.

"That's because I'm not having a hard time, NOT finding a job," he quipped.

Ramsey insisted that he's not homeless. He said he moved out of his Seymour Avenue home because too many people were knocking on his door. In the meantime, he's staying with friends and family until he can find an apartment.

He's hoping to start an online business, selling merchandise in his likeness. His website, CharlesRamseyLive.com, is currently under construction.

While he has not had any contact with the three young women he helped to rescue from a decade of captivity, he did see their first video that was released last week.

"I ran out of Kleenex. What did you think? You also ran out of Kleenex. What did Oprah think? She also ran out of Kleenex. That's how it goes -- the whole world ran out of Kleenex," Ramsey said.
