Dealer offers woman refund on problematic car

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A dependable ride is all LaDonna Harrison said she wants when she hits the gas on her recently purchased 2004 PT Cruiser.

Harrison said the car she bought New Years Eve from J.D. Byrider has been in the shop more than on the road.

"They (the dealership) cannot find much wrong with it ... it kicks and sputters," said Harrison, who noted she was left stranded more than a dozen times, having to call tow trucks.

The vehicle does have a limited warranty according to Harrison's contact, for 3 years or 36,000 miles.

The service manager at J.D. ByRider says the car has been in the dealership's Westside location six times since being sold in late December, with the mechanic unable to replicate the problem Harrison was having.

Last week the car was taken to a local Chrysler dealership with no problems found with Harrison's car. 

On Thursday, Harrison returned the car again saying there were problems after just getting the car back earlier this week after it was in the shop for two weeks.

Harrison said getting a different vehicle would solve the problem.

Manager Jim Kagilery said the solution to the problem is an exchange: Harrison turning in the car and keys and in return being refunded what she has paid for the car.

Kagilery said the dealership has invested $1,200 and has not been able to find the problem. The manager said it's the cost of doing business in this business.

Harrison could not be reached for reaction on Thursday to the offer to return the car to J.D. Byrider.
