JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Highway Loss Data Institute said the Ford F-250 has the highest theft rate of any 2010 to 2012 model year vehicle.

Mike Rast owns one. He said his 2006 Ford F-250 was his pride and joy.

"Loved the truck. It was a dynamite truck. Very reliable," said Rast.

He bought it brand new to haul a trailer. The truck was just paid off. He said he always kept it parked right out front. It was locked and under the street light.

"It was a very sinking empty feeling. I've always taken care of my truck," he said.

Last week, he woke up early like usual and went to his truck, but it wasn't there. He realized it was stolen. He immediately called police.

"I felt violated. It's a very angry feeling," Rast said.

According to the HLDI, the data does not distinguish between stolen vehicle contents or components from a whole vehicle. Kelley Blue Book's Karl Brauer told ABC News, in part "... more people are using trucks, which means more people will need parts related to trucks."

"I had no idea that it was a targeted truck for thieves," Rast said.

Not only does he hopes his truck is recovered, Rast said he wants to warn other F-250 owners.

"Take precautions," Rast said.

First For You, how can you keep your car or truck safe?

1. Consider a fuel cutoff device. It prevents the flow of gasoline once the fuel in the gas line is used. A special key deactivates it. First Coast News found one online for $21.

2. Consider pin-switches. They're installed on the doors, hood and trunk. When fully released, they activate a loud siren.
