JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Veige Williams' idea is for all the folks who can't afford "big ticket" items to help Tyler Southern.

First Coast News is rallying people to help throw Tyler and his fiancee Ashley Statti a wedding and build them a new home. We call it "Operation Thumbs Up."

Tyler is a triple amputee, almost killed when he stepped on an IED in Afghanistan last year. Tyler and Ashley will be married in a private ceremony July 9 in Mandarin.

Williams is putting together a "community quilt" for Tyler.  She knows he has a "rough road ahead of him" and wants him to feel everyone's support.

So, she is asking for people to sponsor a panel with a small house on it to be put on the handmade quilt.  Each house costs $5 to sponsor.

Sponsors can have their names or a message of support put on their house.

The houses will fill the front and the back of the quilt featuring a U.S. Marine emblem in the middle.

Tyler plans to hang the quilt on the wall of his new home, he said, which volunteers will build for him over the summer in St. Johns County.

If you want to help, contact Veige Williams and send your $5 and your message or name.

A message directly from Williams below:

A community keepsake quilt is being made for Tyler Southern and his bride Ashley. The quilt will be kingsize, and have the Marine Corps logo in the center surrounded by houses.

We need 400 houses to fill the quilt to represent their community support. In order to cover expenses for making the quilt, donations of $5 per square (shape of a house) are being accepted.

In return for the donation, your name/family/short quote or "In memory of...", will be printed on ONE of the houses on the quilt. Any monies left after covering expenses will be made into a gift card for their new home.

Names will be accepted until July 31. Send/bring a card with your name, phone number and $5 per house to one of the following addresses:
