Jacksonville attorney Kelly Mathis

SANFORD, Fla. -- Jury selection for Jacksonville attorney Kelly Mathis wrapped up on Monday with some prospective jurors excused with reason for not being able to sit on a trial that could last between four and six weeks.

Mathis is charged with racketeering and money laundering stemming from Operation Reveal The Deal this spring that shutdown Allied Veterans Internet sweepstakes Cafes across the First Coast and the state.

Mathis has denied any wrongdoing and is the first defendant to insist on a trial. Charges have been dropped against 15 other defendants with another seven accepting plea deals.

Mathis said his role was as a legal advisor to Allied Veterans.

On Tuesday, attorneys will question in depth a pool of 60 potential jurors from Central Florida to find six jurors and three alternates.

The trial is expected to start on Wednesday.

The state argues the Internet cafes were gambling operations generating hundreds of millions in dollars with few dollars donated to charities.

All together, 57 people were arrested and charged in Operation Reveal the Deal.
