LAKE CITY, Fla - A funeral for state forest ranger Brett Fulton was held today at Christ Central Ministries Church in Lake City.
Family and friends packed the church to remember the veteran forest ranger who lost his life doing what he loved.
"Brett loved fighting fires. Make no mistake about that," said a fellow Division of Forestry ranger.
Fulton was killed while fighting a wildfire in Hamilton County on Monday. Also killed was Josh Burch. Burch's funeral was held Friday in Lake City at the same church.
Their Division of Forestry co-workers added a black ribbon to their uniforms in honor.
"He was a man of good works and even better deeds. The fact that he sacrificed himself for the protection of others is a true testament of this," said a friend at the funeral.
Fulton's wife was presented with his yellow hard hat during the service. The hat is a familiar sight in many pictures as he fought hundreds of fires over his more than 10 years of service.
"Brett will be sorely missed and his mark left on the world for a long time."
Memorial funds have been set up for each family.
Contributions to either can be made through SunState Federal Credit Union in Gainesville or FLAG Credit Union in Tallahassee.
Flags at the Florida Capitol and in Hamilton County will be flown at half-mast to honor the men.
