MIDDLEBURG, Fla. -- A man was killed when a tree fell on him while he and his brother were trying to remove it Thursday evening.
Around 9 p.m. Thursday David and Chester Duve, brothers, were working to pull down a tree in the 2900 block of Guava Court in Middleburg, according to a news release from Clay County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Mary Justino.
Chester was cutting down the tree with a chainsaw when the chainsaw became stuck, Justino said.
Chester wrapped a strap around the tree. He then tied the strap to a pickup truck being driven by David.
David thought Chester was clear when he snatched the strap with the pickup truck. Justino said this caused the tree to come down directly on top of Chester, pinning him.
Rescue crews were able to free Chester and perform CPR. Justino said he was taken to Orange Park Medical Center where he died.
