JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Downtown Jacksonville wants to invite Northeast Florida to enjoy all that the Northbank Riverwalk has to offer once a month.
That's the aim behind Community First Saturdays, a free event on the first Saturday of every month sponsored by Community First Credit Union and the JAX Chamber. The first one will be held Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event plans to work with the Riverside Arts Market and offer activities along the river such as Tai Chi, yoga and docent-led bike tours, said Tony Allegretti, director of downtown engagement for the JAX Chamber.
"We have one of the most accessible urban waterfronts in the whole world," Allegretti said.
The JTA Skyway will also be free for all, Allegretti said, which will help get people connected to MOCA, MOSH and the library.
Mayor Alvin Brown praised the partnership between the Chamber and Community First.
"Every day, there are generous, civic minded people stepping forward with new ideas and fresh resources to put our city first," Brown said.
