JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- As many stores looked for sales on Black Friday, one store was looking for suspects. Jimmy and Diane Tait own Hawgs and Horses on Blanding Boulevard. While they were at home, celebrating the holiday with family, their store was being robbed.
"They stole several four wheelers, motorcycles, some were customers bikes that had repairs done to them," Jimmy Tait said. "They made quite a mess back here."
The Taits' store has only been in business for a little more than twelve months; and what they thought would the most lucrative weekend of the year, ended up being the costliest.
"We added it up. It's almost $15,000 worth of product got stolen. That's a lot of money. Especially for a small business that just started" explains Jimmy.
He says the robbers broke into his locked gate, dragged the equipment behind the building, through the brush to the parking lot next door, where they loaded it all into a trailer and drove away.
"The building's alarmed to the tilt, but out here it wasn't. It was a spur-of-the-moment [decision], we put it out back because it was getting dark and it was the day before Thanksgiving," Jimmy said. "We pushed the stuff back here and I wasn't sweating it. It was Thanksgiving! Who's going to think that somebody's going to steal stuff on Thanksgiving?"
Though the Taits say the robbery was a tough blow, they're staying optimistic and looking to the future.
"We'll be alright," says Tait. "It hurts. It's a financial burden, but it's not going to stop us or anything. We're just going to keep going," he adds.
The Taits are offering a reward. If you have information that leads to the arrest and recovery of the Tait's merchandise, they will give you a free A-T-V.
