Jacksonville, Fla. -- The man accused of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend will stay in jail until his arraignment next month.
Calvin Wright appeared before a judge Saturday morning after he surrendered himself to police Friday.
He's charged with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and other misdemeanor charges.
The charges stem from the Thanksgiving Day death of his ex-girlfriend Rolisha Thomas.
Police say the two were arguing on Almeda Street Thursday after Thomas told Wright she was breaking up with him.
JSO Homicide Sergeant Shawn Coursey said several shots were fired by Wright, hitting Thomas. Emergency crews rushed the woman to Shands Jacksonville but she did not survive.
Wright was also appointed a public defender, and his arraignment was scheduled for December 17.
