BRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. -- A burglar is caught red-handed in Bradford County thanks to a homemade security system.
According to the Bradford County Sheriff Gordon Smith, a man's
home had been broken into twice before. So, he configured an old laptop
with cameras and a motion detector so he could monitor his house using
his smart phone.
His technology smarts paid off! November 29th, the man caught a burglar in his home.
He told the emergency operator that he got an email alerting him that
his home's camera motion sensor was going off. When deputies went to
his address, they caught a man leaving the house and arrested him.
The burglar, Charles Futch III, later admitted to the crime and faces larceny and burglary charges, as well as a misdemeanor charge of property damage/criminal mischief, according to a release from BCSO Captain Carol Starling
Police were dispatched to the residence and found Futch leaving as they arrived. The homeowner provided surveillance footage that showed Futch in the master bedroom, kitchen and living room.
