JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office reminds residents via Facebook that the holiday season is busy enough without having to dealing with a burglarized car and stolen gifts.
"Nothing ruins the holiday spirit like returning to your vehicle only to realize that the gifts you purchased for your friends and family are now in the hands of a thief that did their window shopping in the parking lot," the post states.
In 2011 over 5,210 burglaries to automobiles were reported in Jacksonville, according to the JSO Facebook page. The figure represents 12% of all crimes reported for that year in Duval County.
Automobile burglary crimes increase during each holiday season, details the post. So remember to lock, take and hide.
