JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 29-year-old pedestrian died after being hit by a car around 9:40 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
The Florida Highway Patrol said 71-year-old Barry Congressi was driving a 2007 Ford Mustang west on San Juan Avenue Monday night.
The 29-year-old, who has not yet been identified pending notification of next of kin, attempted to cross San Juan from the north side of the road, FHP said.
The pedestrian walked in front of the Ford while trying to cross the road and hit the front of the car and its windshield, FHP said.
Emergency workers transported the pedestrian to Shands Jacksonville where medical personnel pronounced them deceased.
FHP said charges in the crash are pending and alcohol may have been a factor.
