FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. -- A 20-year-old motorcyclist died when he crashed along a curve in the early morning hours of New Year's Day.
Codie Barlow, 20, died when he crashed a 2007 Honda motorcycle near the intersection of Pacific Drive and Parish Place, according to a crash report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The report said Barlow was headed north on Pacific Drive in a section of the road that has a sharp curve to the left.
When the road curved, Barlow drove onto the east shoulder and hit a mailbox at 57 Pacific Drive, the report said. The force of the impact threw Barlow from his bike.
Barlow, whom the report said was not wearing a helmet, was found in front of 59 Pacific Drive.
A neighbor who lives close by heard the crash and saw the damage to the mailbox. The report said the person thought someone hit their neighbor's mailbox and drove off but did not see Barlow or his crashed motorcycle. The same person found Barlow's body around 7 a.m. Tuesday when she went outside to get her newspaper and check the damage to the mailbox.
Emergency personnel pronounced Barlow dead at the scene. The report said FHP believes speed and possibly drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
