COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -- Deputies are asking Columbia County residents who have been victims of car burglaries since the beginning of the New Year to come and claim their property.
Deputies discovered stolen property at the home of Aaron Bennefield, 23, who allegedly committed a string of vehicle burglaries, according to a release from the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.
CCSO claims the string of burglaries began on January 2 in the Wise Estates subdivision.
Bennefield reportedly entered unlocked vehicles overnight.
During the investigation, additional vehicle burglaries were reported in Creekside, Azalea Park and Callaway subdivisions.
Detectives investigated a purchase made at a Lake City Lowe's using of a stolen credit card from one of the burglaries.
Management at the store provided surveillance video of the suspect to detectives.
Based on the surveillance video, detectives were able to develop Aaron Bennefield as a suspect.
Bennefield has been charged with 22 separate counts of burglary and more charges are pending as the investigation unfolds.
