JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The parents of Jordan Davis say that Mayor Alvin Brown is going to proclaim February 16 to be Jordan Russell Davis Day. It would have been the day Jordan would have turned 18.

The Wolfson High School student was fatally shot the day after Thanksgiving in a gas station parking lot after an argument police say was started over loud music.

"In the name of Jordan Davis on February 16, when you wake up and walk out your door, the first stranger you see I want you to extend your hand, shake their hand and if you feel like hugging them, go ahead and do that because that's what I'm going to do," Jordan's father Ron Davis said.

"It's a day of hope and a day for the families and mothers and fathers of victims to understand and know there is hope," explained Lucia McBath, Jordan's mother. "There is hope change is going to come. There will be changes made to the laws. Have hope in that, and continue to move forward and just know we are going to do everything we can to help make change for you."

Jordan's parents have invited the public to attend a gathering on February 16th at the Landing from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. with free food and entertainment.

They continue to push to repeal the Stand Your Ground law in Florida and across the nation and met with Congressman John Lewis this week. They say Lewis plans to work to try to change the Stand Your Ground laws on a federal level.
