JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville became a little greener after the city's solid waste division held its second hazardous and electronic waste collection Saturday

Duval County residents brought hazardous waste items like paint, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, and aerosol cans to the mobile collection site at Ed Austin Regional Park in Arlington.

Collection crews took the material from residents for proper disposal.

"They bring it there and we get rid of it for them. Especially those chemicals and stuff," said Leroy Shaffield, City of Jacksonville employee. They send that out. They house that. So I think it's a good idea."

The city has three more mobile collection days scheduled for this year.

  • Saturday, March 16, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Blue Cypress Park, 4012 University Blvd. N.
  • Saturday, April 6, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Mandarin Park, 14780 Mandarin Rd.
  • Saturday, May 11, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Jacksonville Beach Public Works Department, Operations and Maintenance Facility parking lot, 1460 Shetter Ave., Jacksonville Beach

If you are unable to make it out to the mobile collection you can take the items to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility located at 2675 Commonwealth Ave., which is open Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
