LAKE BUTLER, Fla. -- Another blow for devastated residents in Lake Butler. One of the men in the hospital since Saturday's shooting died Tuesday.

David Griffis died early Tuesday morning. Deputies said he was shot in the stomach just outside Pritchett Trucking Company on Saturday.

Ricky Waller knew Griffis. The two were among a circle of friends that met every morning for coffee.

"I'm very well heartsick because he was a friend of mine," Waller said. "He was always very cheerful and a hard working man who loved his family -- and his friends. And he was a friend to me," Waller added.

After Saturday, the community rallied behind Griffis.

There was an urgent need for blood, and dozens in Lake Butler took time out to donate.

Now, Waller said he'll focus on the positive and the good times he had with his friend.

"He was just always smiling," he said. "He didn't deserve what he got."

Pritchett Trucking released a statement on Griffis' passing:

We are saddened today on the loss of our dear friend and colleague David Griffis. David was a remarkable man who personified true work ethic and integrity and who was an integral part of our company-and of our lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends and David will always be a part of our family.

Prior to a Tuesday service honoring the victims, the pastor of Victory Christian Center, Patrick Maxwell, said the service has a clear purpose.

"We hope that we're able to come together and this will be an outpouring of love from person to person that there will be an increase in love in parts our community and there be no ill will whatsoever - and that is our prayer for tonight", he said.
