JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The man convicted of shooting and killing Rufus Hicks during an argument on Easter Sunday was sentenced to life in prison Friday.

According to a release from the State Attorney's Office, Montre Deshawn Richardson, 21, was found guilty of murder in the second degree in September.

In the early morning hours of Easter Sunday 2013, Hicks and a group of friends were at Richardson's house when an argument between Richardson and his girlfriend began. As the argument escalated, Hicks stepped in to try and calm Richardson down.

Richardson then retrieved a gun and fired at least six times at Hicks, striking him three times, according to the State Attorney.

Assistant State Attorneys Alan Mizrahi and Brooke Padgett prosecuted this case.
