PALATKA, Fla. -- Palatka police arrested a man accused of trying to sexually assault a woman while holding her at knifepoint Monday.
Police said the alleged victim called 911 and left the line open to draw police to a home on North 8th Street about 7:20 p.m.
The 911 dispatcher told police a woman's voice could be hearding saying, "Get off of me," followed by a male's voice in the background.
Officers found the man holding down a crying woman inside an abandoned house, police said.
The alleged victim told police she called 911 and purposely left the line open while the attack occurred to help police find her.
Ernest Thomas, 60, of Palatka, is accused of forcing the victim inside the house at knifepoint.
Thomas beat her and was trying to sexually assault her when officers arrived, the victim told police.
Thomas was arrested on felony charges of armed kidnapping and aggravated battery. The victim's allegations could also lead to additional sexual assault charges.
Thomas was booked into the Putnam County Jail with a bond set at $7,508.00.
