JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Gator Bowl teams have been announced - Georgia vs. Nebraska.
The phones at the Gator Bowl office in Jacksonville were ringing Monday. Especially from Georgia fans wanting to be here for the bowl game on January 1 at Everbank Field.
The last time Georgia played in the Gator Bowl - the fan base was big.
According to the Gator Bowl President Rick Catlett, Georgia fans are already familiar with Jacksonville because of the Florida-Georgia game - but they may end up staying longer for the Gator Bowl.
"We think this year this will let them come into Jacksonville and really experience Jacksonville, not just the landing and places like that where we will have our functions but obviously come here for 4-5 days, enjoy new year's eve here," says Catlett.
Catlett said Nebraska fans brought 25,000 people last time it played in the gator bowl. He said normally $14 million is directly poured into the local economy during the Gator Bowl.
