JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --(UPDATE: 12/20/2013 10:30 p.m.) Al Thomas received good news Friday - two calls from people who spotted Dixie. The calls led him to a subdivision on Armsdale Road where they were re-united.
Al Thomas was heading East on Interstate 295 in his pick-up truck Sunday. He was just past Duval Road when traffic slowed due to two crashes.
Thomas hit the brakes and that's when it happened; they locked up and sent his truck spinning backwards down I-295. The truck hit the grass median, flipped over and ejected his two-year-old Border Collie named Dixie.
The dog flew out the back window of the truck and was seen by eyewitnesses running along I-295 towards the Biscayne Boulevard overpass. That was the last time anyone saw Dixie.
Thomas, along with neighbors and friends, has spent the past few days passing out fliers and searching for the dog he has loved for six-months. As Thomas describes the heartache he's experiencing since losing his dog, his voice breaks-up. He further explained his 16-year-old cat passed away around Halloween.
Thomas is hoping someone has seen Dixie and will help bring her to her home and to Thomas' heart.
