A 20-year-old Merritt Island woman stands accused of shaking an 11-week-old infant after becoming frustrated with the child when it would not eat or stop crying, according to Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say they began investigating after Victoria Constance Bennett and her husband brought the unresponsive child to Cape Canaveral Hospital on Friday.

The child was transferred to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando. Experts there determined the child suffered a traumatic brain injury resulting in seizures and partial paralysis, consistent with "shaken baby syndrome."

Bennett was arrested and booked on a charge of aggravated child abuse.

Judge Majeed released Bennett from jail on community supervision. Bennett, who went before Majeed for a first appearance hearing Tuesday afternoon at the jail, was able to leave the facility at 2:30 a.m. today.
