ORLANDO, Fla. - The man who was involved in the carjacking that happened early Monday morning is still on the loose, deputies confirmed.
Just after 2 a.m., 77-year-old Charlesey Smedley was at the front gate of the Capri Apartment complex near Hunter's Creek Boulevard and Fredricksburg Drive when an unknown black man approached her vehicle, Orange County Sheriff's Office detective Jason Sams said.
The suspect grabbed her by the neck and violently removed her from her vehicle, throwing her to the ground, detectives said.
"I think he told me to get out three times," Smedley said. "But it didn't register until he opened the door and pulled me out."
There was no weapon seen, according to Sams.
"We are going to do everything we can to bring justice to this grandmother and her family," Sams said.
The suspect fled the area in Smedley's silver-blue 2003 Hyundai Accent. It is believed he still has the car and is in the area.
Smedley had two broken ribs and a swollen lip. She was taken to Florida Hospital Kissimmee for treatment.
