PALM COAST, Fla. -- A man who pleaded no contest to burglary and drug charges was sentenced to eight years in prison on Monday.

Andrew William Rulon, 41, will also serve seven years of drug offender probation, according to a release from the office of State Attorney R.J. Larizza.

Rulon was arrested in April 2013 for reportedly burglarizing the Safe Haven Veterinary Hospital and was then arrested two weeks later for possession of cocaine, the release detailed. After the drug possession arrest, Rulon was held in jail on no bond.

Flagler County Sheriff James L. Manfre testified before Circuit Judge David Walsh at Rulon's sentencing hearing.

"It is unfortunate that the defendant in this case chose to victimize residents of the Grand Haven community. The sentencing of the defendant to eight years in prison, followed by a long term of drug offender probation is testament to the strength of our Neighborhood Watch program in that community. The local group was able to keep residents informed about the defendant and following his arrest, they continued to make sure they were active participants during his prosecution and ultimate sentencing," Manfre said.
