MORE: 10th Anniversary of 9/11 Attacks

ATLANTA -- A group of Canadians is in Atlanta to reunite with passengers of a Delta jet who stayed with residents of a small town in Newfoundland in the days after the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

Stephen Brereton, Consul General of Canada, will host a commemorative reception Tuesday evening in Atlanta to remember the connections forged between residents of the Canadian cities of Lewisporte and Gander, Newfoundland; and passengers of Delta Air Lines Flight 15.

The Atlanta-bound flight was rerouted to Gander when U.S. airspace closed. The Canadian Consulate said the flight's passengers and crew were soon moved to the nearby town of Lewisporte, where they spent the next four days with townspeople.

The ceremony is planned for 6 p.m. at the Canadian Consul General's residence at 247 Robin Hood Road.
