PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- NFL quarterback Tim Tebow has been selected by Gov. Rick Scott to receive the "Great Floridian" award.
Tebow, who is currently on the New York Jets roster and was a standout at Nease High School and the University of Florida, will recieve the award at The Clubhouse at TPC Sawgrass on Friday.
The "Great Floridian" award has been given to 66 people since 1981 and honors people who "have made significant contributions to the progress and welfare of Florida," according to a release from Scott's office.
In the past, educators, civil rights activists and writers are among those who have been selected to receive the award.
