PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- The weather has impacted the course conditions at TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course. But there could be a potential economic impact as well.
Usually, the area is brimming with people eager for the start of The Player's Championship, but:
"Today we did not open to the public as really a precautionary measure," said The Players Championship Executive Director Matt Rapp.
Organizers delayed opening day, citing safety reasons after more than 10 inches of rain fell. Rapp told First Coast News they had about 3,500 people attend last year. He said they normally don't get a lot of people on a Monday.
First for you, what can you do if you are a day one ticket holder?
"What we're doing is honoring any Monday ticket can come in on Tuesday in the same access," Rapp said.
With those folks not being at the event, and some cancelled events, could there be a "divot" in the economics of the event?
"I'm sure there will be a little bit of money lost in terms of concession sales and lost other types of sales," said Rapp.
Overall, Rapp said crews continue to be hard at work getting the course and other areas back up to proper conditions.
"Most fans who are not really kind of lifting up the carpet and looking at everything, that everything's going to be fine. They're not going to know that there was any issues at all," Rapp explained.
