Richmond, VA (Sports Network) - Four players scored in double figures for
Virginia Commonwealth as the Rams routed the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers,
76-44, in a battle of mid-major squads at the Siegel Center.
Briante Weber scored 13 points to lead VCU (8-3) which won its fifth straight.
Rob Brandenberg added 12 points, Treveon Graham added 11 points and Juvonte
Reddic tacked on 10 points.
George Fant and Kevin Kaspar led Western Kentucky (8-4) with eight points a
piece. The Hilltoppers have lost consecutive games after a six-game winning
VCU dominated in the first half and led 42-16 at intermission. The Rams shot
at a 45.7 percent clip in the first 20 minutes but it was their defensive
effort that really separated them. VCU forced 18 turnovers and limited
Western Kentucky to just five field goals in the first half on 26.3 percent
The second half was a bit more even with the Rams playing a number of
reserves for extended minutes. The Hilltoppers improved to 43.5 percent
shooting while the Rams dipped to 38.7 percent but it was not nearly enough
to make up for the first half.
VCU forced 32 turnovers in the game which the Rams converted into 34 points.
Western Kentucky had only five points off turnovers and was outscored 36-18
on points in the paint.
