Poughkeepsie, NY (Sports Network) - Lamont Jones led the way with 26 points
as the Iona Gaels dropped the Marist Red Foxes, 86-82, in a Metro Atlantic
Athletic Conference bout at McCann Arena.
For the Gaels (10-6, 4-1 MAAC), Sean Armand added 19 points and David Laury
finished with 14 points.
Devin Price led all scorers with 27 points for the Red Foxes (4-12, 1-4),
while Chavaughn Lewis put up 23 points, Isiah Morton scored 15 points and
Adam Kemp posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Marist shot very well to open the contest, connecting on 55.2 percent of its
field goal tries, including 6-of-10 from beyond the 3-point arc, giving the
Red Foxes a 45-42 advantage at the break. Iona kept the contest close by
shooting 47.4 and making 5-of-13 from 3-point distance.
In the second half, the squads again both had success from the field. The
Gaels hit on 48.6 percent from the field and 4-of-9 from 3-point range. The
Red Foxes made 50 percent of their field goal attempts, including 7-of-11 on
their 3-point tries. A 10-0 run early in the second half gave the Red Foxes a
61-51 lead. Marist pushed their lead to 11 with under 12 minutes to play,
before Iona went on a 23-8 run to take a four-point advantage with 4:38
remaining. The Red Foxes would cut that lead to two but get no closer as the
Gaels pulled out the come-from-behind victory.
Iona outscored Marist in the paint, 52-30. The Gaels made the Red Foxes pay
for their mistakes, scoring 27 points off of 16 Marist turnovers.
