Omaha, NE (Sports Network) - Led by 20 points from John Karhoff, the
Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks defeated the IUPUI Jaguars, 90-79, in a Summit League
bout at Ralston Arena.
For the Mavericks (5-14, 2-5 Summit), CJ Carter added 19 points, Justin
Simmons finished with 16 points and Alex Phillips chipped in with 15 points.
Donovan Gibbs posted a double-double with a game-high 22 points to go along
with 10 rebounds for the Jaguars (6-14, 1-5), while Sean Esposito scored 20
points and Jordan Shanklin added 15 points.
Omaha shot very well from the outset, connecting on 54.8 percent of its
field goal tries, though the Mavericks made just 3-of-12 from 3-point range,
as they took a 42-36 advantage into intermission. IUPUI had the shooting
touch as well, making 50 percent of its shots from the field, including
6-of-11 from beyond the 3-point arc.
In the second half, the Mavericks shot a lights-out 72.7 percent from the
field. They also outscored the Jaguars 13-5 from the free-throw line after
halftime. The Jaguars made 45.9 percent of their field goal attempts as they
tried to keep pace. IUPUI was able to pull within three in the final minutes
at 82-79, but Omaha scored the final eight points of the game to grab the
