Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - D.J. Stephens registered a double-double of 15
points and 13 rebounds as the Memphis Tigers completed a 94-64 rout of the
Tulsa Golden Hurricane in a Conference USA clash at FedExForum.
Stephens was also a force on defense for Memphis (18-3, 7-0 C-USA), as he was
responsible for five of the team's 12 blocked shots. Antonio Barton scored a
game-high 16 points while Chris Crawford tallied 12 points and five assists.
Shaq Goodwin contributed 10 points and three steals as the Tigers picked up
their 12th consecutive victory.
Kauri Black paced Tulsa (12-10, 4-4) with 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting from
the floor. Scottie Haralson chipped in 13 points, Pat Swilling, Jr. scored 11,
and Rashad Ray finished with 10 as the Golden Hurricane lost their second in a
Black made the front end of a trip the charity stripe just over a minute after
tip-off to score the inaugural points of the contest. Joe Jackson knocked down
a jumper on the Tigers' ensuing possession to put Memphis up and it maintained
the lead for the remaining 38:30. The Tigers outscored Tulsa, 20-12, in the
paint and tallied 13 points off of turnovers in the opening stanza to build a
sizeable 49-32 halftime lead.
Memphis knocked down 8-of-15 from 3-point range and limited Tulsa to 32.1
percent shooting after the break to extend their first-half lead to keep its
perfect C-USA record intact.
The Tigers did an excellent job of sharing the ball as they assisted 25 of
their 32 made field goal attempts. The Golden Hurricane lost the rebounding
battle, 45-32, and were held to 33.9 percent shooting in the setback.
