Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - A 17-point performance from Ceola Clark
allowed the Western Illinois Leathernecks to take a trip to the Jungle and
make it out alive, defeating the IUPUI Jaguars, 68-59, in a Summit League
Clark earned nine of his points on 10 attempts from the free-throw line for
the Leathernecks (17-5, 9-2 Summit), who have won three of their last four
games. Terell Parks added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for
Donovan Gibbs shot 8-of-10 from the field for 18 points, leading three other
Jaguars (6-19, 1-10) in double-figure scoring. Mitchell Patton had 13 points
and three blocks but also had seven turnovers while Greg Rice had 10 points,
seven rebounds, seven assists, and two steals.
While IUPUI shot 54.5 percent from the floor in the first half, the
Leathernecks shot 51.9 percent and knocked down five 3-pointers as Western
Illinois carried a 36-30 lead into the break.
In the second half both teams hot shooting dispersed but Western Illinois was
able to go 12-of-15 from the charity stripe while the Jaguars were 0-
of-2. The Leathernecks outscored IUPUI 32-29 to close out the win.
This game was won at the free-throw line. where the Bengals were 15-of-19 while
the Jaguars struggled were just 3-of-5.
