Peoria, IL (Sports Network) - Marc Sonnen scored 15 points to lead four
players in double figures as the Northern Iowa Panthers held on for a 68-65
win over the Bradley Braves in a Missouri Valley Conference collision at
Jake Koch and Matt Bohannon each added 14 points and Anthony James chipped in
10 for Northern Iowa (14-11, 7-6 MVC) which has won four straight.
Dyricus Simms-Edwards tallied a game-high 32 points and Walt Lemon Jr.
contributed 18 points and nine rebounds for Bradley (14-11, 6-7) which has
lost three of its last four games.
Northern Iowa ran out to a 37-18 lead at halftime by shooting 45.2 percent
from the field while holding Bradley to seven field goals on 25.9 percent
In the second half Bradley rallied by heating up to 65.5 percent shooting,
including a 5-of-8 effort from beyond the arc. A 22-10 run that began
at the 10:38 mark had the Braves behind by just two points, 58-56, with 4:46
remaining. However Bradley was never able to take a lead as the Panthers hit
5-of-6 free-throw attempts in the final minute. Simms-Edwards had a chance to
send the game to overtime but he missed a pair of 3-point attempts in the
Bradley outscored Northern Iowa 32-12 in the paint and 20-16 in points off
turnovers. Northern Iowa had advantages from 3-point range (33-21) and the
charity stripe (17-6).
