Norfolk, VA (Sports Network) - A 3-pointer by Tahj Tate with under 10 seconds remaining in regulation proved to be the game winner as the Delaware State Hornets captured a 63-60 win over the Hampton Pirates during the quarterfinals of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament at Norfolk Scope Arena.

Tate finished the contest with 12 points for the sixth-seeded Hornets (15-17), while Kendall Gray and Casey Walker both logged 13 points for the squad. Marques Oliver came up two points shy of a double-double as he cleared 11 rebounds for a DSU squad that now heads to the semifinals on Friday and will face seventh-seeded North Carolina A&T.

Du'Vaughn Maxwell registered a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds for the third-seeded Pirates (14-17), while Deron Powers chipped in 11 points for Hampton.

Delaware State opened the meeting on an 8-1 run and led by double figures shortly thereafter, but due to just 38.5 percent shooting from the floor in the period, the Hornets found themselves ahead by just seven at the break, 32-25.

In the second half the Pirates put together a 9-0 run in order to take a 52-44 advantage with over eight minutes to play, but down the stretch it was Tate who took care of the outcome for the Hornets.

Delaware State survived despite turning the ball over 17 times.
