Norfolk, VA (Sports Network) - In the quarterfinals of the Mid-Eastern
Athletic Conference Tournament, the fifth-seeded Morgan State Bears claimed a
64-61 overtime win over the fourth-seeded Savannah State Tigers at the Norfolk
The Bears (16-14) have won seven in a row and will face eighth-seeded Bethune-
Cookman in the semifinals. Justin Black tallied 20 points, while Ian Chiles
had 14 points and four blocks. Anthony Hubbard added 13 points and DeWayne
Jackson managed 11 points with seven rebounds.
The Tigers (19-14) finished off the season just 2-4 in their last six games
and were the fourth of the top four seeds to be knocked out of tournament.
Deven Williams led Savannah State with 20 points, while Rashad Hassan had 13
points and nine rebounds. Preston Blackman added 10 points and six assists,
while Arnold Louis was the game's top rebounder, pulling down 11 boards.
A 3-pointer by Black with 40 seconds left in regulation tied the game for
Morgan State and forced overtime.
In the extra session, Black hit another 3-pointer with 33 seconds left which
put the Bears on top, 64-61. The Tigers missed two potential game-tying 3-
point attempts in the final 15 seconds and left Morgan State victorious.
